No matter what sport you play, you’re always told to hustle.

That’s something Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross is known for doing, though his extra gumption may have ended his season prematurely last evening.

Ross, who enjoyed the height of his success with the San Francisco Giants in their 2010 World Series run, dislocated his hip during last night’s tilt against the New York Mets as he attempted to beat out a routine grounder.

Running down the line, Ross collapsed and began to grab his right leg, clearly in pain. Mets first baseman Ike Davis rushed to his aid and immediately began requesting medical assistance, which led to Ross being carted off the field.

Playing in a bit of a platoon given the D’Backs abundance of outfielders, Ross has put up a very solid .278 average with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 351 plate appearances.

There’s no word on Ross’ availability for the rest of the season, though, it’s unlikely he will return.

To take Ross’ place, the Diamondbacks called up Matt Davidson who will take over the third base duties and moved Martin Prado (who had been playing third) to the outfield to replace Ross.
