After being released, the New England Patriots have decided to re-sign Leon Washington – this according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

"To bring their roster to 53 players, Patriots re-signed RB/KR Leon Washington, per NFL source."

The Patriots have quite a handful of players on the IR right now and should have a pretty hefty inactive list tomorrow, so the addition of Washington might be more than a numbers game – he could actually see the field (though not much).

Washington was let go by the Patriots on September 1st, eating all of his $360,000 dollar signing bonus, so I guess it didn’t hurt to bring him back – at least financially.

Both the New York Giants and the New York Jets showed interest in Washington as he worked out for both teams, but left without a contract offer.

Possible he didn’t fit or that teams feel he has lost a step, he remained jobless until the Patriots gave his agent a call and re-signed him to meet the minimum roster requirement.

There’s no word on if the Patriots intend to keep Washington for the long haul now.
