Houston Texans agree to hire Bill O’Brien as next head coach

We expected the coaching dominos to fall, but not in a positive way just this yet in the process. But less than 48 hours after Black Monday, the first head coaching vacancy of the offseason has been filled. According to ESPN’s Christ Mortensen and Adam Schefter, Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien has agreed to terms with the Houston Texans to become the team’s next head coach.

This news doesn’t come as a huge shock, as there were rumblings of a deal getting done at some point this week. Mortensen reported as much this weekend and O’Brien is now officially the head coach of the Texans who are in dire need of a change of pace. After their 2-14 season, one that saw Gary Kubiak have a stroke before he was fired, Houston has not only the No. 1 pick int he draft, but is primed for a run at a Super Bowl.
O’Brien had been on the radar of a few teams, but now that he’s agreed to terms with the Texans to return to the NFL, not only will other teams need to look elsewhere to fill their vacancy, but Penn State might want to get on the phone with Greg Schiano and other candidates to fill a vacancy that just opened up on their campus.
