There were questions if the New Orleans Saints would retain wide receiver Robert Meachem this offseason, but it appears the team would like to bring the veteran back – this according to the Baton Rouge Advocate.

"The Saints and Meachem’s camp had broached the topic of a new contract by Friday, one of the sources said. Of course, what will ultimately determine whether Meachem rejoins the Black and Gold is if he and the team can agree on how much money he’s worth to New Orleans."

Despite the Saints interest in retaining Meachem, New Orleans is strapped hard financially (especially given the Jimmy Graham situation) so it’s not know if they’ll be able to afford him.

A high quality blocker, Meachem has drawn reported interest from multiple teams including the Dallas Cowboys, but his sub-par receiving skills will likely limit his market, especially financially.

The best scenario for he and the Saints is a reunion as he seems to fit perfectly in Sean Payton‘s offense – something San Diego Chargers fans are well aware of after his horrific tenure in Southern California.
