On Monday, Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive end Jason Babin voided his contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, making him a free agent.

Many pundits did not expect the move, but with some of the deals defensive players are getting and the Jaguars’ signing of defensive lineman Red Bryant after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks, it is something we probably should have seen coming.

There is also a possibility that Babin simply voided his deal to a sign a brand new contract with the Jaguars and according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com, there is a “solid chance” the Jaguars keep Babin.

"There’s a solid chance Babin, who turns 34 in May, will re-sign with the Jaguars, albeit at a much more reasonable salary than the $6 million he was scheduled to make in each of the next two seasons. He’s not a double-digit sack guy any longer, but he did lead the team with 7.5 sacks last season and coach Gus Bradley and defensive coordinator Bob Babich both said he has played better than his stats indicate."

Last season, Babin had 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles while playing in all 16 games for the Jaguars.
