The Carolina Panthers are reportedly attempting to trade longtime wide receiver Steve Smith.

They apparently haven’t had much success in their attempts and have opted not to release Smith today, despite rumors suggesting that they had planned to do so.

"#Panthers WR Steve Smith is not being released today, per source."

Not only did most fans/media/insiders thinks Smith would get his walking papers, so did the trash talking wideout who earlier today posted on Twitter that he was likely headed for the ‘unemployment line’.

Of course, no team is going to make the Panthers any type of trade offer when they could just pick up Smith for pennies out of the free agent pool, so it makes sense as to why the Panthers are opting to keep him on the roster for now.

What this means for his future in Carolina is unknown. Could the Panthers be having a change of heart and be willing to keep Smith moving forward? Or are they simply delaying the inevitable?
