Chicago Bulls’ center Joakim Noah has been lobbying for the Bulls to re-sign point guard D.J. Augustin.

He has a compelling case.

Augustin has played very well, helping to fill in for the injured Derrick Rose. He’s played especially well as of late, including scoring a career-high 33 points in a 107-102 victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday night.

He is averaging 12.4 points, 4.5 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game this season.

Augustin was asked if he would like to return to the Bulls next season and his response was an emphatic yes.

“I would love to be back here,” Augustin reiterated Monday via Cody Westerlund of CBS Chicago. “This organization, this team is great, and I think it’s great for me. (Thibodeau) has given me the opportunity to play and get better. It’s been great for me.

Augustin, however, said he “is not really focused on” his free agency and is simply going to stay out of the way when it is time to address it.

“When the time comes, I’ll let my agent handle it and just kind of relax.”
