Chivas USA Player Ratings

Dan Kennedy 3

Despite five saves and a catch, goalkeeper Dan Kennedy could make all the stops with the Galaxy sending waves of attacks in his direction.

Eric Avila 3

Eight recoveries, two clearances, 38/46 passing.

Carlos Bocanegra 3.5

Six clearances, six recoveries and 31/32 passing, the latter which he gets a bonus for.

Eriq Zaveleta 2.5

Showed some flashes of brilliance but was marked easily when the Galaxy midfielders put the rookie on notice. 24/28 passing, five clearances, five recoveries. Only way to go is up.

Andrew Jean-Baptiste 6

Andrew Jean-Baptiste has had a history of playing particularly well against the Galaxy. He did score on them as a member of the Portland Timbers, taking his shirt off in the process. But this isn’t Portland he’s playing for. Still, he had four recoveries, three clearances, three tackles won and went 38/45 with his passing.

Thomas McNamara 2

15/19 passing, four recoveries and one unsuccessful cross.

Mauro Rosales 4.5

It’s never good when you’re Mauro Rosales and everyone on the Chivas USA first team has to rely on you to do something because allegedly, you’re the only one that can actually do something. 25 percent cross success rate (3/12), seven recoveries and 31/44 passing was never going to be enough, especially against the Galaxy. Earns a deduction for a yellow.

Carlos Alvarez 3

It seemed Carlos Alvarez played far better against Los Angeles when Jose Luis Sanchez Sola was managing Chivas USA. Here, they weren’t going to let Alvarez figure them out again. Three recoveries, two tackles won, two clearances, 36/44 passing.

Agustin Pelletieri 4

Four recoveries, two interceptions, 38/43 passing.

Erick Torres 3.5

Almost scored from a tight angle in the first half but couldn’t do much after that. Also receives a deduction for a yellow card.

Adolfo Bautista 3

Came in far too late to help Chivas USA and has not reached match fitness, according to Cabrera. News flash, Wilmer, if you don’t give Bofo more playing time, bad things will happen. You may want to take a chance if this keeps up.

Luke Moore 1

Luke Moore is a washed-out Brit for a reason. He’s not even good enough to play for a lower-league team in England. Wilmer should have kept him on the bench until he can prove himself as a super sub. No shots on goal in bad news. This was a case of Cabrera’s rookie managerial tactics exposed in their vain unglory. Goat of the Match (and not the good Goat, mind).

Kristopher Tyrpak 4.5

I’ll give Kris Tyrpak this: he’s the best passers Chivas has out there. Every one of his 10 passes was successful. That will give him a nice bit of confidence going forward.

Leandro Barrera 4

Should have started up front with Cubo instead of Moore. Six recoveries, three unsuccessful crosses, 11/17 passing. Obviously the crosses and passing may explain why Barrera comes off the bench, but if I’m Cabrera, and I have to pick the lesser of two evils, I have to start Barrera.

Shaking up the lineups every game hurts team chemistry, and Cabrera needs to pick a lineup and formation and stick to it, with the only changes coming due to injury or suspension.
