For weeks we’ve heard rumors suggesting that the Minnesota Vikings could possibly use their 8th selection in the 2014 NFL Draft on a quarterback, however, that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer.

According to Bob Holtzman who appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter, the Vikings have allegedly decided that they will wait to draft a quarterback (assuming they draft one at all) until after the 8th pick.

Holtzman stated the Vikings are “prepared to wait a round or two, if not longer.

LSU’s Zach Mettenberger has been a rumored target of the Vikings for some time, though, he understandably wasn’t an option in the early first round like a Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles, Derek Carr or Teddy Bridgewater, though could still be an option in the later rounds.

Offensive coordinator Norv Turner is a big fan of strong-armed quarterbacks, a role that Mettenberger would fill , so the Vikings may see more opportunity to snag a quarterback later in the draft as opposed to using their 8th pick on a signal caller.

Pittsburgh’s Tom Savage is also a potential candidate to be selected in the later rounds as well.
