The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t exactly been quiet in their effort to re-sign shortstop Hanley Ramirez as rumors of a deal have been noisy for a few months now. However, what they probably weren’t expecting was Ramirez to be demanding upwards of $130 million dollars as is being reported by CBS Sports.

"Ramirez, eligible for free agency after this season, is believed to seek a contract in excess of $130 million. With Jacoby Ellsbury getting $153 million and Shin-Soo Choo $130 million as free agents, the figure for Ramirez wouldn’t be a surprise."

In the final year of his six-year, $70 million dollar contract, Ramirez seeking a raise is completely understandable though such a hefty addition might force the Dodgers to balk a bit, especially given his injury history.

That said, Ramirez is one of the better offensive players in the game and an elite offensive shortstop, so what he seeks he’ll likely get and the Dodgers have deeper pockets than just about anybody even with their already elevated payroll.

Los Angeles has previously stated that if they were to re-sign Ramirez, they may opt to move him to third base in the near future, a position Ramirez says he is fine playing though stated that if moved he would like to stay there rather than be flipped around defensively.
