The St. Louis Cardinals came into the season believing they had replaced the loss of Carlos Beltran in the outfield and they’d have little need for top prospect Oscar Taveras.

However, while defensively the Cardinals have been adequate in the outfield, the bats haven’t been as promising.

For weeks that has lead to speculation that St. Louis could be close to promoting Oscar Taveras, but so far, we’ve seen no indication the team planned to do so.

Until now.

According to general manager John Mozeliak, the Cardinals could ‘possibly’ call up the talented outfielder around June 4th as St. Louis embarks on a handful of games in American League ballparks.

“The natural thing there is because you have the DH,” general manager John Mozeliak said. “I can see that possibly happening, sure. Oscar has played well. Grichuk has gone down there and been lights out. I would say a lot would depend on how we’re playing.”

It’s not known if the Cardinals would consider keeping Taveras on the roster after that point, though if he continues to excel one would think sending him down would be a rather difficult decision.

Taveras has been destroying PCL pitching as of late, hitting .390 during his last ten games will amassing 85 bases in just 42 games this year.
