With the Chicago Bulls slated as the frontrunners to land Carmelo Anthony, head coach Tom Thibodeau is working his magic in convincing the seven-time NBA All-Star that his future is in “The Windy City.”

According to a report by Joe Cowley of the Chicago-Sun Times, Thibdeau has already reached out to Anthony with numerous phone calls. He’s also gotten in touch with a number of coaches that have worked with Anthony in the past.

An unknown former coach who had Anthony on his team told Cowley that these conversations have taken place

The Bulls finished the 2013-14 regular season with a record of 48-34. They were eliminated in the opening round of the NBA playoffs by the Washington Wizards in five games.

The unknown source believes Anthony could elevate the Bulls up the standings in a relatively weak Eastern Conference.

“There’s no question they would be better with him – with or without his defensive inconsistencies,’’ the source said. “As I told Tom, ‘You’re in the East, Tom. Remember, you’re in the East.’ ‘’

A combination of Anthony, a returning (and hopefully healthy) Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah could be enough to get the Bulls over the hump. The team managed to secure a No. 4 seed with Rose playing 10 games and forward Luol Deng getting dealt before the deadline to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 77 games for the New York Knicks, Anthony averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 38.7 minutes. He also shot 45.2 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point range.

The Bulls only averaged 93.7 points, which ranked dead-last in the NBA. Anthony’s offense would certainly get them out of the cellar in that department if a move were to take place.
