The Toronto Blue Jays were in need of some infield help before Brett Lawrie went down with a broken finger earlier this week. Now they’re desperately in need and Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal suggests they’re currently testing the market to see what’s available.

The line of thinking here is that the Blue Jays are open to either an ‘upgrade’ at second or third base and when Lawrie returns (3-6 weeks) he’ll play whatever position is of need.

Of course, infield help is just one of the many areas the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to improve as they’ve continually been rumored to have interest in a front of the line starter like David Price or Jeff Samardzija. Price, a fellow American League East foe doesn’t seem likely as the Tampa Bay Rays are said to prefer moving him to the National League. As for Samardzija though, the Toronto Blue Jays appear one of the lead candidates to acquire the Chicago Cubs ace thanks to their organizational depth.

As for the infielder, Rosenthal doesn’t go on to expand about who they’re looking at, though just a few days ago there were rumors linking the Toronto Blue Jays to New York Mets infielder Daniel Murphy. Murphy is also reportedly coveted by the San Francisco Giants.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, every year there seems to be a position of need across Major League Baseball and second and third base help (along with pitching) seem to be the most desired positions, putting a premium on their price tags.
