The Dallas Mavericks will have plenty of cap space this offseason thanks to superstar Dirk Nowitzki’s willingness to take less money on his upcoming contract. It won’t be enough to get the Mavericks a superstar as they can’t afford to hand out a maximum contract, but they should have enough available money to nab themselves a high quality talent or two.

More from Dallas Mavericks

In addition, the Mavericks will need to fill out their roster with young, cheap talent which is likely why they have interest in Al-Farouq Aminu who previously spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Clippers.

A 23-year, former lottery pick, Al-Farouq Aminu certainly comes with some warts as he’s not what you’d call a refined offensive talent, but he plays hard and can move his feet on the defensive side of the ball. That’s really all you can ask for in regards to a bench player, especially one who is still just a few years removed from legally being able to drink.

There’s been no talk of any money at this point, though Aminu wouldn’t likely cost very much. However, given the Dallas Mavericks are likely looking to sign a bigger name free agent or two, they’re likely to wait on offering Aminu a contract considering they don’t want to eat up any of their cap space at this point. That could allow another team to swoop in and sign the young small forward, but we haven’t seen many teams express interest in Al-Farouq Aminu just yet.
