The Portland Trail Blazers don’t have a lot of money to spend in free agency, but they’ve targeted a handful of players who they appear to have interest in. One such player is veteran center Spencer Hawes, a native of the Pacific Northwest who seems to share the potential interest.

More from NBA

Hawes, who has received interest from the Los Angeles Clippers and his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers is said to like the prospect of playing for the Trail Blazers and according to The Oregonian is ‘very interested’ in signing with the franchise.

"After spending Tuesday entertaining overtures from multiple NBA teams, Spencer Hawes remains “very interested” in the possibility of joining the Trail Blazers as a free agent, a source with knowledge of Hawes’ thinking told The Oregonian."

Hawes, who met with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday is said to ‘like everything’ about the Blazers organization, top to bottom, so it appears as if the two sides are very intrigued with each other.

If Spencer Hawes is to sign with the Blazers, he’ll have to take a pay cut as Portland can’t offer anymore than their $5.3 million dollar exception, a dip from the $6 million plus Hawes made last season which he split between the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

In addition to general manager Neil Olshey and head coach Terry Stotts stating interest in Hawes, Damian Lillard also shared the sentiment as he placed Hawes on his list of desired free agents earlier this week.

There is no official word on which way Spencer Hawes is leaning at this point.
