In the past week it’s been reported that Mike Miller was close to contracts with both the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies, only to sign with neither. The assumption was that Miller would likely join LeBron James and sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, whom he played with during his stint with the Miami Heat.

More from Dallas Mavericks

However, the Dallas Mavericks appear to be making a last ditch effort to sign the veteran as reported by Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.

Looking to replace Vince Carter, who ironically signed with the Memphis Grizzlies – Miller’s previous team – the Mavericks are making a push to sign the swingman who has oddly drawn a hefty amount of interest this offseason.

While no longer the player he once was, Mike Miller still gets the job done and has proven himself to be one of the most efficient offensive talents in the NBA. He’s never been much of a defender and as he ages that will only get worse, but there aren’t many better bench talents in the NBA and that’s likely something the Mavericks are more than aware of.

Of course, it’s going to be difficult to beat out the Cleveland Cavaliers in a race for his services considering they currently employ the best basketball player in the world, though the Dallas Mavericks are no slouch either and should be a serious threat in the Western Conference this season.

Also hurting the Mavericks chances of landing Mike Miller is the fact they have to wait until they get word from the Houston Rockets about their offer sheet to Chandler Parsons. It was reported Saturday morning the Rockets are likely to push the waiting period to the brink.
