The Cleveland Browns drafted quarterback Johnny Manziel with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Since than the offseason has been filled with stories of Manziel and his hard-partying ways.

More from Cleveland Browns

While Manziel’s antics have caught the attention of some within the Browns’ organization, they haven’t been noticed by fellow quarterback Brian Hoyer. When asked if he had been paying attention to the Manziel sideshow during the offseason Hoyer told 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, “Not really. I’m not really focused on my teammates, what they do in their off life so that’s none of my business. They can make those decisions on their own. All that matters is that we come back ready to go for the season.”

Hoyer didn’t necessarily see any need to pull Manziel aside and talk to him about how he should handle himself, instead saying he prefers to lead by example.

“I think that’s the way it goes. Like I’ve always said, the best way for me to be a mentor and a leader is to go about my business and lead by example. We’ll go from there and it’s going to be a fun time and it’s going to be fun so [fans] come out to training camp because it’s going to be a fun time.”

Of course every misstep Manziel makes is one step closer to Hoyer cementing himself as the team’s starting quarterback. Head coach Mike Pettine already came out and named Hoyer the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart entering camp.

“It’s great but like [LeBron James] said, it’s earned not given,” Hoyer said referring to James’ essay on his decision. “I’m not looking for anything to be handed to me and I know Johnny, he’s going to push me to his full extent. I’m looking forward to just going out there and playing football and competing so it’s an exciting time.”
