Heading into the 2014 season, one sleeper name that you will hear constantly for the Heisman Trophy is that of Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott. As a sophomore last season, especially near the end, Prescott looked the part of someone who could take this Mississippi State team to heights head coach Dan Mullen envisioned when he first took over the program, finishing up with 1,940 yards passing and 829 yards on the ground with 13 touchdowns.

Indeed, a lot is expected out of the Bulldogs’ quarterback this season as he gets set to make a run not only after that Heisman, but an SEC Championship as well.

And when he talked about his balance between the run and pass during SEC Media Days on Tuesday, you can tell that he’s beginning to think like a leader of a football program, not just someone looking for publicity.

“I was kind of wanting to run sometimes,” he said. “I would step back and throw and my feet wouldn’t be where they need to be. But I believe when I have my feet underneath me I can make all the throws.”

Also, he won’t let all of this new found fame affect his game whatsoever. He’ll still remain the Dak Prescott that he’s always been.

“I know who I am deep down,” Prescott said. “It hasn’t changed no matter what I’m doing, if it’s media days or back at the facilities. Nothing has really changed.”

For the first time in a while, there is legitimate hope for this Mississippi State football program to make some noise in the SEC, and that all lies on the shoulders of Prescott.
