After the first nine installments of the current postseason format, where the College Football Playoff holds its neutral-site national championship game absolutely matters.

While the New Year’s Six bowl games are at well-established and very identifiable locations, the national championship game for the College Football Playoff constantly changes every season.

It is kind of like the Super Bowl, but with not as much pomp and circumstances attached to it. Yes, getting the CFP national title bout to your city is still a huge deal. Unfortunately, we have seen over the last nine seasons that some metropolises aren’t really great places for it. New Year’s Six locations are perfect, as are a few notable other major cities (Houston, Indianapolis, Tampa, etc.).

So with that in mind, here is a list of the confirmed national championship locations for some upcoming College Football Playoffs. A few usual suspects, as well as one new, cool entrant.

  • 2023-24: NRG Stadium (Houston, TX)
  • 2024-25: Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, GA)
  • 2025-26: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, FL)

Thankfully for everyone involved, the next three games will be in Houston, Atlanta and Miami.

Although Houston has never hosted the national championship game, anybody with a brain knows it is going to work. Houston is a massive metropolis with a fantastic NFL stadium. Even if the city does not have a college bowl game on par with the New Year’s Six, it should go over as well as the games in Indianapolis and Tampa before. The SoFi and Levi’s Stadium bar is not that high too clear.

In two years when the CFP expands from four teams to 12, iconic Mercedes-Benz Stadium will get the good, old-fashioned double down of the Peach Bowl and the national title bout. Only a select few stadiums can do major college football events quite like The Benz in Atlanta can. That is why it will always be a part of the national title bout rotation forever going forward. It’s exceptional there!

And in three years, let’s take our talents to South Beach. As with Atlanta the year before, Miami will get to do the meaningful bowl game double-down. The Orange Bowl is always fantastic and Hard Rock Stadium will be getting to host its second national title bout in the CFP era. Again, this is going to work out splendidly. Miami is an event city and they love their football big time for sure.

The big question is when will the CFP try its luck and see if Reliant Stadium in Las Vegas will work.
