Nick Gibson commits to Mississippi State: Bulldogs land 4-star RB
Nick Gibson (Pinson, Al. Pinson Valley) nearly committed to Mississippi State when he attended the Bulldog’s camp in June, but elected to take the patient approach, but the four-star running back could not wait any longer as he committed at the school’s Big Dawg Camp on Friday.
This 2015 class is a good one for Mississippi State and hopefully we end up with a national championship in college.
The 5-11, 191-pound running back picked Mississippi State over offers from Alabama, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville and Arkansas, among others. Gibson is the nation’s No. 298 recruit overall regardless of position, No. 24 running back and the No. 9 recruit in the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
“It was just a great moment,” Gibson tells 247Sports. “Mississippi State knew I wanted to be part of the family and they welcomed me into the family tonight. It was great to make my decision tonight here and to be honest, it is kind of a surreal family.”

Gibson rushed for 2,205 yards and 27 touchdowns last year as a junior and added 25 receptions for 266 yards and three more touchdowns through the air.
Mississippi State added a bigger back earlier in the day in three-star recruit and 222-pound workhorse Alec Murphy and also have a commitment from Kentavious Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga. Baldwin) to give the class three versatile running backs.
“They see me as a balanced back with strength and speed,” Gibson tells 247Sports. “That is what they have in their plans for me, being that total all-around back. And I feel I can be the greatest back ever to come through Mississippi State if I apply myself and earn it and work hard.

Gibson is not afraid of competition as he joins a class with two other backs and heads to Starkville where he joins last year’s four-star commit Aeris Williams and rising sophomore Ashton Shumpert as he hopes to boost the future State backfields.
“And there is going to be competition there and I love that. Going to Mississippi State, I know I have to earn everything and I am aware of that. I have to go there and prepare well and do all of my training the right way. I know I have to earn my spot no matter how old I am and God-willing, I will be a starter.”
With the addition of Gibson, Mississippi State now owns the nation’s No. 13 class and the No. 8 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings.
