Shaquery Wilson commits to Georgia: Bulldogs land 3-star athlete

Georgia added the 14th member of their 2015 class in the form of three-star wide receiver/defensive back Shaquery Wildson (Miami, Fla. Coral Gables Senior) who committed to the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.

Wilson is the nation’s No. 520 recruit overall regardless of position, No. 61 receiver and the No. 70 ranked recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-3, 190-pound recruit wants to play on in the secondary, however, and talked to 247Sports about his decision to commit to Mark Richt and Georgia.

“I love Georgia because they gave me the opportunity to play receiver or DB,” Wilson first told 247Sports.com on Thursday. “I want to play defense. I’d rather play defense. I think I’ll last longer at DB.”

Wilson picked Georgia over offers from Arkansas, Louisville, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Purdue, Rutgers and UCF, among others.

The hire of defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt who served as his primary recruiter was a vital part of his decision to commit to Georgia and play cornerback for the Bulldogs after what Pruitt was able to accomplish during his time at Florida State.

“Coach Pruitt, he’s good,” Wilson told 247Sports. “He’s made an impression on me and I listen to everything he says. He said he will make me a top corner if I just stick with it so I’m just going to stick with it.”

With the commitment of Wilson, Georgia now owns the nation’s No. 11 class in the 247Sports team rankings and the No. 6 ranked class in the competitive Southeastern Conference.
