It is time for NFL fans to start getting excited, with the beginning of training camps kicking off this week. For the Kansas City Chiefs rookies, the battle for a roster spot begins today.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs rookies are set to report to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri for the beginning of training camp today, while the veterans do not report to camp until Wednesday, July 23.

With training camp battles set to begin, a number of the Chiefs rookies are eager about what is ahead.

That includes quarterback Aaron Murray.

“It really gave us a chance as rookies to [have it] just it be all about us,” Murray said, via the team’s official website. “To get out there and get a lot of reps. The way you get better in any kind of offense, especially at the quarterback position, is just getting reps.”

Another rookie that will have plenty of eyes on him is first-round pick Dee Ford.

If head coach Andy Reid’s comments are any indication, Ford has been looking good during OTAs and he has made sure that he is prepared for what is ahead.

“It looks like he’s really spent a lot of time learning,” Reid said. “It’s a new position for him and so I think he’s done a great job of jumping in the book and learning the drops, the things that you need to do with the pass coverage. And that’s not an easy thing with all the combination things that we do. I’m happy with what he’s done there.”

The start of training camp means that we are just weeks away from preseason games.

At that point, the regular season is just around the corner.

It is time to get excited.
