The Oklahoma Sooners football program may soon need to deal with an incident surrounding running back Joe Mixon, who was a five-star member of the team’s 2014 recruiting class.

According to reports, Mixon was involved in what is being described as a “serious altercation.”

The incident occurred when Mixon was out celebrating his 18th birthday and a number of people were involved. Because of juveniles being involved, there are very few details available at this time, but police are reviewing footage of the incident.

From SoonerScoop.com:

"Norman police responded to an incident at Pickleman’s Gourmet Café in Norman at 2:39 a.m. on Friday. A spokesman for Pickleman’s gave no comment on the situation.A synopsis of the report suggests aggravated assault and battery. Sources indicated Mixon was not arrested at the scene as officers wanted to study security footage of the incident before filing any charges. The incident report obtained by SoonerScoop contains limited information, as one or more juveniles is involved. A spokesman for OU is aware of the incident and issued the following statement:“We are aware of the matter and it is under internal review.”"

It is obviously not the way for Mixon, who is one of the most talented running backs of his recruiting class, to start his career.

Since there are so few details, it is hard to know exactly what went wrong or how involved Mixon is, but the fact that it was described as a “serious altercation” can be a cause for concern.

Oklahoma will allow the legal process to play out while they gather more information before making a decision on what happens next.
