Just a few years ago, the Florida State Seminoles were suffering through arguably the most difficult time in the history of their football program. The Seminoles suffered through five consecutive sub-par seasons from 2005-2009. They posted records of 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 9-4 and 7-6 during that span, culminating in long-time defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews and legendary head coach Bobby Bowden stepping down during the 2009 season.

The Seminoles promoted offensive coordinator and head coach in waiting Jimbo Fisher to head coach and after a bumpy first two seasons that saw the Seminoles post a combined record of 19-8, they have gone 26-2, including a perfect 14-0 2013 season capped by a 34-31 victory over the Auburn Tiger in the BCS National Championship Game. The Seminoles have again become one of the nation’s elite programs for several different reasons but the recruiting of Fisher and his staff may be the biggest reason for their success. The Seminoles signed another elite class in 2014 – it was ranked fourth nationally and first in the ACC.

Four of Florida State’s freshman defenders, Lorenzo Featherston, Jacob Pugh, Derrick Nnadi and Demarcus Christmas were all elite level recruits, each listed as a 4-Star prospect according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. Featherston is a 6’7, 220-pound defensive end from Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Pugh is a local product – the 6’4, 221-pound linebacker attended Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee. Nnadi was another out of state coup. The 6’1, 305-pound defensive tackle is from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Christmas is a 6’4, 287-pound defensive tackle from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida.

The four players were brought up together because they are now referring to themselves as the “New Seminoles” and have made a music video called “Gotta Make It To The Top.”
