Alabama continued its trek toward another No. 1 ranked recruiting class on Tuesday with the announcement that four-star safety Ronnie Harrison (Tallahassee, Fla Florida State Univ. School) flipped from the North Carolina Tar Heels in favor of the Crimson Tide.

The 6-2, 205-pound Harrison possesses tremendous size for a strong safety and is ranked as the nation’s No. 13 safety, the No. 205 recruit overall regardless of position and the No. 29 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Harrison committed to North Carolina nearly three years ago to the date when he gave his verbal commitment to coach Larry Fedora and the Tar Heels on July 26 of last year, but with today’s final announcement, the decision for Harrison came down to Alabama and SEC west rival LSU after each school were his last two visits in July.

The decision to flip from North Carolina to Alabama was a difficult one for Harrison who said he was treated like family from the Tar Heels, but the lure of Alabama and their reputation of sending defensive backs to the NFL was too much for Harrison to pass up, according to 247Sports.

“Just Coach (Kirby) Smart and Coach (Nick) Saban. They both coach the DB’s and Coach Saban is a defensive-minded coach. I’ll be working with him every day. They put guys in the league. It’s DB-U over there. They put guys in the league and really teach their DB’s how to play the game. I want to be a part of that. They also compete and win championships every year at Alabama. I want to go over there and contribute and be the next one to come out of there,” he said.

With today’s commitment, Alabama maintains their spot as the nation’s No. 1 class and distanced them from the No. 2 team, the Texas A&M Aggies.
