Bo Pelini has decided to let his hair down a little bit this year and stop being Mr. Serious Business-Face all the time. Friday, the new Bo gave his players a treat by modeling the new all-red alternate Nebraska uniform.

I have to say, Bo looks surprisingly good in the uni. A lot of coaches wouldn’t be able to pull that off. Charlie Weis, for instance. He would look utterly stupid in that uni. Bo is in pretty good shape though. If it weren’t for his head he could almost pass for a player.
Now about those uniforms. Is there a barf bucket nearby? I need the barf bucket.
Why do schools like Nebraska with all their tradition feel the need to flush that tradition down the toilet and emulate the Boise States of the world? These smaller schools do gimmicky things with their uniforms because they’re desperate for attention. Nebraska is Nebraska. It doesn’t need to resort to uniform gimmicks.
I know I know, competition for recruits. Kids like jazzy alternate uniforms. Especially the ones who have absolutely no fashion sense. And the color blind ones. And the easily-impressed ones.
Nebraska gets two selling-points out of this: “cool” alternate unis and a coach who is a fun guy to be around. Why don’t they paint their field red as well? Sure. What the hell.
