The Houston Rockets had big plans this offseason which included the courting of Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh. Of course, neither signed in Clutch City and that left the Rockets standing at the alter in embarrassing fashion.

More from Houston Rockets

To make matters worse, general manager Daryl Morey had went all in on the idea of adding a third star into the mix and was forced to trade away Jeremy Lin for salary cap purposes and lost Chandler Parsons in the process. Needless to say, things went about as badly as they could have. Hell, they may have even missed out on adding Jameer Nelson who signed with the Dallas Mavericks like the previously mentioned Parsons.

Released by the Orlando Magic, Jameer Nelson was looking for a new home and few places seemed better than the Houston Rockets. Not only did they have both Dwight Howard and James Harden, but they had plenty of available time at point guard thanks to the loss of Lin. It seemed like a perfect fit and it’s possible that Howard, Nelson’s teammate with the Magic attempted to recruit him to the Rockets.

Asked by Josh Robbins if D-12 attempted to lure Nelson to the Houston Rockets, the point guard wouldn’t give a straight answer.

"[Laughs] You know what, man? I’m with Dallas. I’ll just talk about Dallas. [Laughs]"

One could probably assume that if Howard didn’t attempt to court Nelson, Jameer simply would have said the two didn’t have any interaction. Though given Houston’s need for a point guard and their prior relationship, it seems likely there was probably some courting going on.
