The saga of Damore’ea Stringfellow’s journey from the University of Washington to Ole Miss has been one of the strangest we’ve seen this summer. After announcing his choice to transfer from the Huskies, Stringfellow made a commitment and signed non-binding scholarship papers with Nebraska in the final week of May.

Less than three weeks later, Stringfellow made a switch of his commitment—choosing the Rebels as his school to transfer to.

It didn’t sit well with Nebraska head coach who hit out about the process during Big Ten Media Days. It didn’t take long for Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze to hit back either.

Following Pelini’s statement of “Read between the lines. I think we all know what happened in that situation,” earlier this week, Freeze was asked about it during his press conference on Friday.

The Rebels head coach didn’t shy away from his defense either, stating:

"We’re certainly confident in the way our coaching staff goes about doing thing. I reached out to him (Pelini) and said ‘hey, if you have something that I don’t know, please call me.’ I got no response. I don’t know. I will say this, the lady I dealt with was very charming, intelligent and very observant. I think there are a lot of reasons that it may have gone our way. I’m sure he had a reason he said it. We’re glad we have String and his mom."

Stringfellow was the No. 8-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2013 out of Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, Cal., ultimately sitting as the No. 116-ranked player in the Top247 by 247Sports.

However, he sought a transfer following the departure of head coach Steve Sarkisian to USC.
