New Texas head coach Charlie Strong gave a press conference as the team reported for Longhorns training camp Sunday, and it took him a good fifteen minutes just to get through all the announcements about disciplinary actions against various players.

The big announcement concerned Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander, who were arrested for sexual assault in July. Strong says both players have been kicked off the team.

Strong also confirmed earlier reports saying Joe Bergeron, Jalen Overstreet and Chevoski Collins have been released from their scholarships. Bergeron was let go after several incidents where he violated team rules.

The head coach then took a deep breath, had some water and announced suspensions for Josh Turner, Daje Johnson and Desmond Harrison. Strong indicated these were one-game suspensions but implied they could be longer.

Turner was at one point banned from the Texas facility after clashing with a coach, but after a meeting with Strong earlier this week, he was reinstated.

Sanders and Meander were initially suspended by Texas with this stern statement from Charlie Strong (via SportsDay DFW):

"“We’ve been monitoring and addressing the situation with Kendall (Sanders) and Montrel (Meander) since it was brought to our attention,” Strong said. “It’s been made clear to everyone on our team that treating women with respect is one of our core values, and I’m extremely disappointed that two young men in our program have been accused of not doing that. With the recent charges against them, they have been suspended indefinitely from our football team and will no longer participate in any team functions.”"

Strong makes an even stronger statement by kicking the players off the team. It’s a new day down there in Texas.
