Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston has been hoping to get a pay raise, but he eventually swallowed his pride and reported to training camp ready to play out the final year of his rookie deal.

However, that doesn’t mean Houston is giving up hopes of getting a new contract from the Chiefs, but there is a gap between the two sides.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Chiefs did offer Houston a new contract when he reported to training camp, but the pass rusher was not happy with the offer and there is a “huge” gap between the Pro Bowler and Kansas City.

With Houston having to play out the final year of his rookie contract, the next opportunity for a big money deal will come when the season ends.

The Chiefs will then be faced with the decision of whether to sign Houston to a long-term deal or to slap him with the franchise tag so that the two sides get more time to work out their differences and reach an agreement.
