The redshirt junior Thomas had been listed as a starting DT on the LSU depth chart. Thomas reportedly injured his biceps in practice on Wednesday and is scheduled for six months of rehabilitation.
Thomas backed up Ego Ferguson in 2013, amassing nine tackles in eleven games. He got the start in the Outback Bowl against Iowa when Ferguson was suspended and did not make the trip to Tampa. Thomas notched one tackle in LSU’s win over the Hawkeyes.
His best game was week 2 against UAB when he racked up a career-high four tackles, adding a fumble recovery and a pass break-up.
With Thomas out, Greg Gilmore, Frank Herron and Maquedius Bain are expected to vie for the starting DT spot. Just on the basis of names, I want Miles to give it to Bain. That’s the best name since Barkevious Mingo.
A three-star recruit out of Beaux Bridge, Louisiana, Thomas lists his major as sports administration.
LSU is scheduled to open up its season August 30th at home against the Wisconsin Badgers in what is sure to be a heart-stopping showdown between two colossal college football powers.
