Accused killer asks Siri for help

While many Apple iPhone users have asked Siri for help in one way or another, even some jokingly, there can’t have been many that have used the virtual assistant as an accomplice to murder.

That could be the situation that Pedro Bravo currently finds himself in.

The 20-year old Floridian had a screenshot on his iPhone of Siri responding to the question, “I need to hide my roommate.”

He is currently charged with kidnapping, strangling, and murdering a friend, Christian Aguilar, in September of 2012.

In regards to the posed question, Siri typically responds with, “What kind of place are you looking for?”  Following up with suggestions such as, “Swamps. Reservoirs. Metal Foundaries. Dumps.”

While the question was originally mentioned to have been asked by Bravo, the Gainesville Police has now reported otherwise.  In a quote to Mashable, a department representative said, “A detective testified that a Siri search was done at some point by someone, but the screenshot showed it was conducted on an AT&T device and the defendant uses Verizon.  It’s believed then that the search wasn’t made on his phone. The defendant also had an iPhone 4 and Siri wasn’t available until the 4S.”

Apple has since changed the responses to similar questions from Siri.  Now posing such questions to the assistant bring about responses like “I used to be able to answer this question.”

Police however seem to have been able to place Bravo at the scene using data extracted from his iPhone.  They were able to conclude that his iPhone flashlight was used in hiding the body of Aguilar.

It is well-known that nearly everything is tracked through smartphones, but it is interesting to note how some things are tracked through cellular connection while others are stored as information on the device itself.

At any rate, this seems like a case of a sad situation for one young man, and a second young man who not only makes poor choices, but uses technology to keep records of them.
