The father of race car driver Kevin Ward has spoken out publicly for the first time against Tony Stewart, the man who struck and killed his son during a horrifying incident at a dirt track in New York State last weekend.

Predictably, Ward’s father is not singing a happy tune about Stewart, who many believe deliberately hit Kevin Ward after Ward left his car to confront Stewart about an earlier incident.

Kevin Ward Sr. had these strong remarks about Stewart (via Syracuse.com):

"“I think the reason he probably got out of that car is who put him into the wall. He was definitely put into the wall,” Ward Sr. said.Kevin was dressed in an orange and black suit with fluorescent stripes down the sides that glowed under the lights, his father said. There was a caution flag, racers were slowing and moving to the bottom of the track, he said. The other drivers saw Kevin walking, his father said.“Apparently, Tony Stewart was the only one driving out there who didn’t see him,” he said."

Video of the incident shows multiple drivers passing Ward before Stewart hits him with his sprint car, dragging him several feet.

Stewart has expressed regret over the incident while dropping out of several races in response to public outcry against him.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter and have not ruled out the possibility of seeking criminal charges against Stewart.
