Matt McGloin found Brice Butler with six seconds left for a 19-yard touchdown pass and the Oakland Raiders (1-1) rallied Friday night for a 27-26 preseason victory over the Detroit Lions (1-1) at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif.

The Raiders got the ball at their own 32-yard line with 2:32 remaining and immediately went backward when Kevin Boothe was flagged for holding. But a defensive holding penalty against Detroit’s Jonte Green got Oakland out of a deep hole and the Lions later helped out again when Nevin Lawson was called for pass interference against Butler at the Detroit 19.

More from Detroit Lions

After trying twice to connect with Greg Little, McGloin found Butler for the game-tying touchdown. Sebastian Janikowski’s extra point gave Oakland the lead.

Rookie Derek Carr was 9-for-16 for 109 yards and a touchdown, leading the Raiders on three scoring drives before he left the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion and sore ribs.

McGloin came on and was 7-for-15 for 114 yards and a score.

Starter Matt Schaub led the Raiders to their first score after throwing a deflected interception and failing to move the offense on two straight possessions. He was 8-for-13 for 87 yards and a pick.

Detroit took the lead early on Golden Tate’s 28-yard touchdown catch from Matthew Stafford and took a 13-0 lead when Stafford hit Kris Durham with 2:01 left in the first period.

Darren McFadden scored from a yard out midway through the second quarter to pull Oakland to within 13-7 and Janikowski later hit a 28-yard field goal to make it 13-10.

With just eight seconds left in the half and after a false start penalty on Travis Swanson and a sack by Nick Roach on Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky moved the ball back to the Oakland 37, kicker Nate Freese drilled a 55-yard field goal.

Detroit went up 23-10 on George Winn’s 1-yard touchdown run before Carr connected with Jake Murphy for a 3-yard scoring pass with 2:32 left in the third.

Janikowski brought the Raiders to within 23-20 with a 36-yard field goal, but Lions kicker Giorgio Tavecchio hit from 25 yards out

The Raiders won the game but had a disastrous night from a health standpoint. Besides Carr, Oakland lost safety Tyvon Branch to an ankle injury, running back Maurice Jones-Drew hurt a finger, tight end Scott Simonson sustained a concussion and offensive lineman Matt McCants was helped off.

Detroit safety DeJon Jones came out of the game with a neck injury after hitting Simonson and forcing a fumble late in the fourth quarter.

For the Lions, Orlovsky was 8-for-12 for 153 yards. Stafford went 9-for-10 for 88 yards and two scores and Kellen Moore was 5-for-8 for 50 yards.

Mikel Leshoure led the Detroit ground game—such as it was—with 23 yards on seven carries. The Lions had only 52 yards on 26 rushing attempts.

McFadden had 27 yards on eight carries for Oakland and Kory Sheets needed only five attempts to gain 27 yards.

The game was sloppy from the penalty standpoint—Detroit was whistled for 11 infractions while the Raiders committed seven penalties.

Oakland’s next preseason tilt is next Friday at Green Bay. The Lions will be home to host Jacksonville the same night.
