Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson had nothing but bad things to say about the fanbase.

Gardner-Johnson signed with the Detroit Lions this offseason, and has since trashed the Philadelphia fanbase.

While C.J. was understandably not happy with his departure from the City of Brotherly Love, as the Eagles didn’t pay Gardner-Johnson his perceived worth, to take a shot at the fanbase itself is a low blow. These are everyday, hard-working people paying to watch you play. Surely this has to be some sort of sour grapes.

“My least favorite thing … is the people,” Gardner-Johnson said. “They’re f**king obnoxious, I f*****g can’t stand the f******.”

Eagles fans are passionate folk, and they will tell you when you mess up. Gardner-Johnson is not immune to mistakes, of course, so he likely grew tired of the constant criticism.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson takes low blow at Philadelphia Eagles fans

Gardner-Johnson went to bat for his team in the aftermath of their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s been one of the more outspoken Eagles over the last few seasons. While he’s since switched sides — signing with a fellow NFC contender in the making — that doesn’t excuse such vitriol being spit at the fanbase.

Eagles today summed up their fanbase quite well, while also acknowledging that the citizens of Philadelphia often have a chip on their shoulder. It can be tough to adjust to, and it appears Gardner-Johnson never quite got used to it.

"“Eagles fans are known for being very passionate, for lack of a better word, which has drawn some strong reactions across the NFL. Look no further than the San Francisco 49ers’ string of complaints after their NFC Championship Game loss in January for such reactions. However, it’s rare for those reactions to come from current or former Eagles themselves.”"

And yet, Gardner-Johnson took aim at his former fanbase is a bizarre form of friendly fire. Hopefully, this is the last of it.
