Last year’s No. 1 overall pick is not playing like it as Eric Fisher is struggling as the Kansas City Chiefs left tackle is slow to recover from shoulder surgery.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Fisher played on the right side last year after the former Central Michigan left tackle was the first player taken in he 2013 NFL Draft and struggled, but with the departure of Branden Albert this offseason shifted him to his natural position with the hopes he would play better.

The early reports are not favorable, especially after Fisher had an ugly showing Saturday against the Carolina Panthers in the team’s second preseason game.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is blaming his struggles on his offseason surgery on his shoulder and is still rounding into health as most players do when they return from surgery.

"“Any time you’re coming off a significant injury you have to continue to battle through and that’s what this preseason has been for him,” Reid said, via ArrowheadPride.com. “He’s coming off of a shoulder surgery and you saw how he started the game.He started off like gangbusters and then as that arm gets tired he has a tendency to not shoot it quite as fast as he would when it’s fresh. I’m not sure he’s even conscious of that. You see that with players coming off knees, same thing. As the game goes on, they don’t play off it as well as they do earlier in the game.”"

The jury is still out whether Fisher was the right pick at No. 1 but so far he’s looking closer to a bust than he is a wise pick. Time is still very much on his side, but if he can’t get his shoulder healthy and improve his play in his second year, the Chiefs could have trouble at the blindside.
