For the past few years, tight end hasn’t been a position of worry for the Green Bay Packers as Jermichael Finley put up Pro Bowl numbers in the slot. However, after Finley suffered a career threatening injury and the Packers opted not to re-sign him, the position has been put up for grabs.

More from Green Bay Packers

The general assumption was that Brandon Bostick would likely take over the Green Bay Packers starting tight end role given he’s generally assumed to be the most talented on the roster and took over for Finley after his injury last season, though he didn’t exactly inspire a ton of confidence with his on-field play.

He hasn’t done much during training camp either and it’s the belief of ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that Richard Rodgers may quietly be named the starting tight end.

"Richard Rodgers may have quietly taken control of the starting job. He opened with the No. 1 offense for the second straight game although he did have a ball thrown his way. He played the entire opening series; the Packers did not sub because they were in the no-huddle. Bostick went next and after an impressive 23-yard catch and run last week against the Titans, he had a 9-yarder before departing with a lower leg injury that is not believed to be serious. Bostick also has shown he might be the best blocking tight end on the roster."

Rodgers hasn’t exactly been what you’d call a weapon either, though seems to have better hands than Bostick which could play into the shuffling of roles for the Green Bay Packers.

Either way, whomever wins the role isn’t going to find themselves as a premier choice for receptions from Aaron Rodgers.
