It’s never to soon to start talking about NFL quarterbacks being benched. On the morning before the first full slate of games, a pair of starters is already being placed squarely on the hot seat.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has identified two QBs who could get the quick hook if things don’t start off well for them and their teams.

It probably doesn’t take a deductive genius to reason out that Manuel and Fitzpatrick are starting the season with their job security in doubt.

More from Buffalo Bills

The Bills didn’t bring in Kyle Orton because they thought Manuel was the second coming of Jim Kelly, and the Texans didn’t make a trade for Ryan Mallett because they thought Fitzpatrick was the long-term answer either.

Schefter confirms what most of us already would have suspected: if you’re starting a Quarterback Dead Pool, pick E.J. Manuel or Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Matt Schaub would have been another good pick but the Raiders already took care of that by naming Derek Carr the starter.

Another sneaky pick might by Chad Henne, who is about two bad games away from being yanked in favor of Blake Bortles.

Matt Cassel is probably in decent shape in Minnesota unless that team totally goes in the tank and the owner calls for Teddy Bridgewater.

Dead last on your QB Dead Pool should be Peyton Manning. And if you need me to tell you that, you shouldn’t have a QB Dead Pool.
