The fantastic start to the 2014 college football season continues on Saturday for Pittsburgh panthers running back James Conner against Florida International and broke one of Tony Dorsett’s rushing yards in the 42-25 win.

More from College Football

Conner ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the convincing win to give him 529 yards in the first three games of the season, passing the record held by the Heisman winner and Pro Football Hall of Famer who had 487 in the first three games of his freshman season in 1973.

The 6-2, 250-pound back began the season with four touchdowns and 153 yards on 14 carries in the 62-0 win over Delaware two weeks ago to turn some heads, but it was against the Blue Hens so it was tough to know whether that was a sign of things to come or if he was breaking out.

One week later, Conner was a battering ram against the Boston College Eagles when he ran the ball 36 times for 214 yards and a nine-yard touchdown in the third quarter that gave Pitt a 27-7 lead and earned him a spot on the top 20 players in college football.

Conner had 146 carries for 799 yards and eight touchdowns a season ago, so he should eclipse his freshman totals within the next two games at this pace.
