The NFL experienced a handful of big injuries over the weekend, but one of the biggest names to go down may have been the Chiefs bell cow running back Jamaal Charles.  After suffering an apparent foot injury early in the contest against the Denver Broncos, he did not return.  It appears however, that things aren’t as bad as they appear to be.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Today, Ian Rapoport reported on his Twitter account that Jamaal Charles MRI came back clean, and the only injury he suffered was an ankle sprain.

Not all is in the clear, however.  Considering that Charles had to leave the game and did not return, the ankle sprain could be of the nagging variety.  High ankle sprains are some of the most annoying issues in all of the NFL.  Many a running back has been plagued consistently by a high ankle sprain.

Given Jamaal Charles nature of quick cuts and hitting the hole hard, the ankle sprain could slow him down in the coming weeks.  Look for Charles to take it somewhat easy in practice this week, and be evaluated as game time draws closer.

Knile Davis filled in for Charles on Sunday and ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns on his own.  Davis has long been considered as one of the best backup running backs in the NFL, and he showed why on Sunday.

For both the Chiefs and his fantasy football owners, happiness has to be the emotion after hearing the injury is not as significant as it was first believed to be.
