Week 2 was a great one for fantasy owners who had the right tight end in their lineups.  Not only was the top point-scorer in ESPN standard scoring a tight end (Antonio Gates), but there were actually three tight ends that finished in the top 15 with big days for Jimmy Graham and Delanie Walker as well. There is still a disparity between the “haves” and the “have-nots” at the position, but hopefully you can find a top 15 TE to start from the list below to be a success for your team this week..

More from Fantasy Football

The big absence due to injury on our list this week is Vernon Davis who was still on crutches as of Wednesday’s practice and doesn’t look likely to play this week after sustaining an ankle injury on Sunday Night Football. The Redskins tight end Jordan Reed still appears a week away as well, but the list does include Browns’ TE Jordan Cameron who has a good shot to play against the Ravens.

There are some emerging options at the position if you find yourself looking on the waiver wire, and if you have any questions about who to pickup or start that aren’t answered in this list, get ahold of us @FansidedFantasy on twitter. For the rest of our waiver wire and lineup coverage for week 3, check out our fantasy football page or find the latest posts in the inset box above.

Here are the top 15 tight ends to start week 3 with the top five here and the next 10 on the following slide:

Week 3 vs Vikings. Jimmy Graham. 1. player. 15. Just in case you thought Graham was slipping, he crushed the Browns last week dominating for 118 yards and two touchdowns on ten catches.  Drew Brees struggled when he targeted other options but was straight money when connected to his tight end.  As the Saints come home to take on Minnesota, look for them to run up the score to prove they’re better than their 0-2 start and being back in the dome should return this offense to it’s optimum pefromance which means plenty of work for the top fantasy tight end in the game. . New Orleans Saints

2. player. 45. This week Thomas is really more of a 1A than a 2 in our rankings.  Thomas finished with four catches and 39 yards on Sunday against KC and caught a touchdown bringing his total so far the season to four in just two contests. After watching Antonio Gates catch three TD passes against Seattle last week, Thomas is the one Broncos receiving option I’m confident in starting this week despite the “Legion of Boom” matchup.. Denver Broncos. Week 3 @ Seahawks. Julius Thomas

player. 47. Gronk is still working his way back into the Patriots passing game and has only four catches in each of his first two games back.  New England is easing him back in, but expect him to get some work against the Raiders Sunday in the New England home opener.  If you drafted Gronk early, it’s still time to be patient with him in your lineup since the payoff will come later in the season when he’s back to full strength.. New England Patriots. Week 3 vs Raiders. Rob Gronkowski. 3

4. player. 87. Olsen is still one of Cam Newton’s favorite receivers as evidenced by his co-leading the team in targets in Newton’s 2014 debut last week. Olsen has over 70 yards in each of the first two games this season and the Steelers are coming off a performance last Thursday where they allowed the Ravens TE to score a pair of TDs and finish with eight catches for 58 yards.  It should be another solid week to go with Olsen as your starter.. Carolina Panthers. Week 3 vs Steelers. Greg Olsen

54. Ertz has better upside than Gronk or Olsen for this week, but there’s also more risk with starting him which keeps him right here in the top 5.  Ertz continues to be a big part of the Eagles passing attack and finished last week with 86 yards on four catches.  He’ll face a Redskins defense that allowed 71 yards and a touchdown to the Jags TE last week.  The risk with Ertz is that he doesn’t draw a ton of targets so the margin for error is slim since the Eagles spread the ball around efficiently on ofense.  . Philadelphia Eagles. Week 3 vs Redskins. Zach Ertz. 5. player
