As soon as the San Diego Chargers decided to cut ties with oft-injured wide receiver Vincent Brown, the Oakland Raiders were allegedly licking their chops.

Not exactly overflowing with weapons on the offensive side of the ball, the Oakland Raiders felt bringing Brown in would give them a much needed vertical threat as stated by head coach Dennis Allen.

“We’re going to work him and see how fast he can pick up what we’re doing offensively,” Allen said. “After competing against him a few times when he was in San Diego, it’s clear that he has some explosiveness. He catches the ball well and has some vertical threat down the field. One thing you notice is that, when the ball goes in his direction, Vincent generally makes the catch.”

There’s no doubt that Vincent Brown has talent when he’s healthy, it’s just that staying on the field has proven difficult for the former San Diego State product.

In terms of him being a vertical threat, that seems a little hopeful on the part of Dennis Allen though Brown should give Derek Carr a reliable target assuming he sees enough game action.

As for Brown, he says he’s excited to be part of the Black and Silver and while he received interest from more than just one team, the Oakland Raiders felt like the best fit.
