Whether or not you use photo editing software, it is almost for certain that you have heard of the company Adobe, or the product, photoshop. Now the mega-media company has acquired photo editing platform, Aviary. Aviary just announced the acquisition of the company by Adobe.

Aviary has a two-part business process. On one side of the house, the company takes care of developers offering a development kip allowing photo editing capabilities to be added to other apps. On the other side, Aviary has its own standalone app, which has been downloaded over 100 million times.

The Aviary app has been used to edit over 10 billion photos and has partnered with companies like Yahoo/Flickr, MailChimp, and Walgreens.

CEO Tobias Peggs said in a blog post that Aviary’s products should see no interruption of service, but they are looking into ways to integrate both companies “such as the ability to save creations to Creative Cloud in Adobe file formats, access Photoshop technology, and connect creativity across devices using the Creative SDK.”

At this point, no financial information has been revealed in regards to the deal. However, Peggs did say that the entire Aviary team would be joining Adobe.

Aviary was founded in 2007 and has raised over $19 million to date.

As Adobe continues to grow, and its product offerings continue to expand, it only makes sense for them to acquire more entities. There seems to be significant value here for both companies, and I would expect Aviary and Adobe to benefit from the acquisition.
