The Charlie Strong era is off to a 1-2 start but optimism still reigns supreme as starting quarterback Tyrone Swoopes still believes the Texas Longhorns will be in the College Football Playoff this year.

Despite the back-to-back losses to UCLA and BYU and losing David Ash to retirement as a result of concussions, Swoopes is confident in his ability and the talent surrounding him on The 40 Acres and believes it is good enough to be among the nation’s elite at the end of the season.

“I expect to be in the College Football Playoff,” Swoopes told reporters. “We have the talent to do it.

“This year, yes”

This is the type of attitude you want to see from your field general who never relents and is always confident in his and his teammates ability, but this may be a bit overzealous and unrealistic considering the start of the season for Texas and the number of teams who will have a better resume at the end of the regular season than Texas who may finish in the middle of the Big 12 conference.

Even his head coach disagrees with his own quarterback as Strong told the media before the season started that this team is not going to be in the national championship game this year, but he is optimistic with the resources available and the talent on the roster and in the state of Texas that there is no reason they can’t be there in the near future.
