Here’s one if you want to win a bar bet with a baseball fan who doesn’t live on the west coast: who was the San Diego Padres’ starting pitcher who was named to the 2014 All-Star Game?

That would be Tyson Ross. The 27-year-old’s season has been nothing short of outstanding, making him a mainstay in the San Diego rotation moving forward. His season is done a couple weeks early, however, due to a flexor strain in his right forearm.

Corey Brock of MLB.com reports the following:

"Ross hasn’t appeared in a game since Sept. 13, which was his last start. He experienced soreness as well as fatigue in his right arm shortly thereafter and the team announced he would miss his next start while he received treatment.“He’s going to require just a little bit more healing and treatment than this week,” said Padres manager Bud Black. “I think it was more medical-related than risk-reward. But he feels confident, and our doctors and our training staff know that this soreness will go away over the next couple weeks.”"

It sounds like this move is precautionary as much as anything, something that is certainly appropriate since the Padres have been out of playoff contention for a while now.

Ross ends the 2014 season with a 2.81 ERA in 31 starts to go along with a 1.21 WHIP and a 9.0 K/9 mark. If pitcher wins are your thing, his win-loss record in those starts was 13-14.
