As we continue to roll on in the college football season, the Heisman picture continues to become more clear. Teams are now fully into their conference schedules, and the true playmakers are starting to emerge on a weekly basis. Checking in with the Heisman Pundit is a weekly practice, and this week, we see much of the same.

The Straw Poll continues to be the most accurate and widely respected Heisman predictor. With four weeks already in the books, week 5 continues to bolster the positioning of some of the most elite players in America.

Check out the Heisman Pundit Straw poll for September 30, 2014:

Total Points (with first place votes in parentheses)

1. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon — 23 (7)

2. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia — 18 (3)

3. Kenny Hill, QB, Texas A&M — 7

4. Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama — 5

5. Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska — 4

6. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin — 2

7. Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State — 1

Marcus Mariota continues to reside comfortably on top of the Heisman standings, and barring a Ducks loss that rests on Mariota’s shoulders, there doesn’t appear to be any way he gets knocked off. Toddy Gurley and Kenny Hill round out the top three this week, with both having solid performances.

Possibly most surprising, Jameis Winston has all but fallen out of relevance. With a shaky performance early against NC State, and continued struggles off of the field, he may be killing his own stock.

Check back next week for the updated rankings.
