Since the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers, there has been a lot of speculation about which veterans would be the next to go.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Veteran guard J.J. Barea eems like the most likely player to be traded and many even believed Barea would be included in the Love deal. Instead, he is still a member of the team and both he and the Timberwolves say they’d like to keep it that way.

However, Chuck Myron of Hoops believes Barea is “a goner.”

"The Wolves and Barea are saying the right things, but I think JJ’s a goner. Adrian Wojnarowski reported today that Minnesota extended a four-year offer to Robinson earlier this summer, so clearly Flip would like to hold on to his rights for a while, something he can’t do if he cuts Robinson at the end of camp. I suspect they’ll find a trade partner for Barea, but if they don’t, I’d really be surprised if they don’t do a buyout with him."

With the Timberwolves likely re-signing Ricky Rubio and bringing in Mo Williams in the offseason, there isn’t a role for Barea.

Barea went for 8.4 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.7% from the field, 34.7% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free throw line. In his eight-year career,  he’s averaged 8.3 points, 3.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, 34.7% from three and 79.8% from the charity stripe.
