When Denver Broncos starting running back Montee Ball went down with injury in Week 5, the hope was that he’d only miss a week or two of action.

The team appeared to know a bit about Ball’s injury though weren’t fully aware of the specifics when they ruled him out for Week 6. Now it appears as if Montee Ball will be out longer than anticipated as Jay Glazer of Fox Sports notes the former Wisconsin star separated his groin attachment from the bone and will be sidelined for potentially a month.

"According to FOX’s Jay Glazer, Montee Ball separated his groin attachment from the bone and will be out 3-4 weeks."

Replacing Monte Ball this week is veteran running back Ronnie Hillman who drew the start for the Denver Broncos though it’s not known if he’ll continue to be given the starting gig given C.J. Anderson was technically Ball’s backup on the depth chart.

For what it’s worth there have been suggestions stating the Denver Broncos will use the ‘hot hand’ which was Hillman after Ball went down last week.

If there is a silver lining for the Broncos its that they don’t exactly rely on the running game and Montee Ball wasn’t exactly lighing things up before his injury. Given that, Peyton Manning and company should be able to handle the loss of Ball with relative ease and the constant desire to stop the passing attack from the opposition should open up holes for whomever the Broncos put in the backfield.

Hopefully when Montee Ball does return, he’ll be fully healthy because separating your groin attachment from the bone seems like a gnarly injury.
