When you suffer an injury the last thing you believe it to be is a good omen. Understandably, Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose likely wasn’t jumping for joy when he suffered yet another season ending injury in 2013 though might there be a silver lining?

That’s the thought process of Milwaukee Bucks head coach and NBA legend Jason Kidd who suggested Rose’s injury may have made him become a more complete player.

How you ask? Well, Rose couldn’t do much outside of shooting jumpers during his rehab which Kidd believes helped Rose expand his game.

“I think sometimes injuries can be a positive because I think it has now helped him develop the jump shot from behind the arc,” Kidd said. “It’s given him a lot of time to concentrate on that. We’re talking about a guy that has played at a high level, MVP, so he’s a smart player, and so I think the injury is a positive thing that helped him develop the jump shot.”

It’s a little bit of odd and reversed logic though it seems as if Jason Kidd does have a point. I’m sure Derrick Rose and Chicago Bulls fans would have preferred the former NBA MVP work on his jumper in the offseason and not while nursing season ending injuries, though it’s obvious to see how an expanded offensive game would benefit Rose moving forward.

For what it’s worth, Derrick Rose stated he plans to play ‘smarter’ when it comes to going inside this season and could opt to shoot more jumpers instead of risking injury in the paint. Hopefully that helps him stay on the floor as another injury would be nothing short of mentally devastating.
