On Saturday Milwaukee Bucks head coach and NBA legend Jason Kidd suggested Derrick Rose’s injury was a good thing because it would help him improve his shooting stroke.

That seems like an understandable assessment to make if Rose’s jumper was actually improved but that hasn’t been the case as the Chicago Bulls star has struggled with his mid-range game. The poor shooting could be a cause for concern given Rose’s desire to play away from the rim this season according to Basketball Insiders.

"The only issue so far has been his midrange jumper, which as Grantland’s Kirk Goldsberry noted has declined precipitously.  Rose does not appear to be rising on balance very well, as he almost always lands with his body oriented in a different direction."

Rose’s sub par jumper is understandably worrisome though the former NBA MVP looks very healthy which is a good sign for he and the Chicago Bulls. More importantly, Derrick Rose has still shown an ability to get inside and be successful in the paint despite his desire to play more of perimeter role in effort to avoid further injury.

That may not however be his best option if he continues to have trouble shooting, especially with his mid-range shot. It’s possible the Chicago Bulls might be able to find a mechanical flaw in Rose’s stroke or simply re-work his shot to give him better lift, but as of right now that doesn’t appear the be in the plans.

Outside of the jumper though (which was never all that impressive to begin with), Derrick Rose looks very good and while maybe a touch less athletic (he’s also three years older), D-Rose looks ready to lead the Chicago Bulls atop the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
